Glad to have you visit! Sit back, relax and stay for a while.
But first, what is Willowind? It's a place - nestled in the
wooded hills a short distance north of the historic
resort village of Mt. Gretna, Pennsylvania.
It's also an idea - cadged from the classic,
The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame -
a tranquil, secluded spot - a perfect reclusive anchorage.
And it's also a Dalmatian plantation,
occupied by the spotted tribe pictured below who share these
acres with the deer, rabbits, raccoons, squirrels, chipmunks
and all the other wild and unfettered creatures.

Free speech court decision

"... the Internet may fairly be regarded as a never-ending
worldwide conversation. The Government may not,
through the CDA, interrupt that conversation."

Chief Judge Sloviter, US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit

Pedigree Software Program
This program is not "shareware" or "freeware", it is "hugware".
If you like the program and want to continue using it,
then give your Dal a hug. If you don't have a Dal, give
your neighbor's Dal a hug. If your neighbor doesn't have a Dal,
then give any pooch a hug.

Inbreeding in Dalmatians
This PDF file contains an article I wrote on inbreeding in Dals.
This article was first published in "The Dalmatian Quarterly," Spring 1999.

A Realization in Computed Electronic Sound
This brief foray into gene music translates the

Pedigrees and Genes
Using Pedigrees to Track Inherited Disorders - 2
This article discusses the use of pedigrees to evaluate the risks for inherited disorders.
Published in "The Spotter," Spring 2003 (but with printing errors in several formulas).

The Backcross Project
The Dalmatian-Pointer Backcross Project was started by Dr. Robert Schaible,
a medical geneticist then at the University of Indiana. His goal was to breed dogs
of Dalmatian type and temperament but with normal low uric acid levels.

Dal Zen
These pages comprise a few observations
that I have made while living with Dalmatians.

First in our hearts are the Dalmatians that shared our lives
but now live on only in our memories.

Picture of Bones.
Bones, Willowind Mister Bones joined the Willowind clan as a young adult and quickly established himself as the nemesis to the older Dals by insisting that they join in his puppyish antics. Disqualified from the show ring because of a patch, Bones quickly finished his Therapy Dog certification and joins the others on therapy dog visits where he thrives on the adulation and treats from the residents.

Oh yes, I live here also. I'm Jim, and it's my job to take care of all the menial chores like feeding the occupants listed above and generally cleaning up about the place. I'm also responsible for this page, and I'm hoping it will improve as time goes on with more links to follow. In the meantime, if you would like to drop a line to let me know you visited or to make any comments or suggestions, you can E-mail:
